Day 7

Day 7 - Tuesday

Exciting news!!! Hudson is completely off oxygen support. I'm so excited for him!! Yesterday they decreased his support from 4 liters of O2 to 2 liters and today it's gone! No more nasal cannula! Now you can really see what a handsome face he has.

Both boys are up again on their feeding amounts- 20 ml now every 3 hours (4 teaspoonsful or 2/3 of an ounce). Guess that means I better keep up on my pumping to keep them nourished.

Colton is doing amazing at taking his feedings via bottle. Instead of having to fed him though his feeding tube like Hudson has been needing, Colton has been showing hunger cues (hands in the mouth, chomping his mouth, sticking out his tongue) and eagerly taking a bottle. The last three of his feedings have all been bottle.

We had a meeting this afternoon with the Dr and heads of the NICU staff. They discussed all the details of the boys' care and what their expectations and requirements are for them going home. The Dr indicated he doesn't foresee them staying in the NICU for very long since they've made such progress already. But there are four things each must meet before they can go home: 1. They must nipple all feedings 2. They must be gaining weight on a consistent basis 3. Must be able to maintain their temperature independently and still be growing (essentially showing they don't burn up all their calories just maintaining their own body temperature, but can do so and be growing) and 4. Can not have any apnea/bradycardia episodes (where they essentially forget to breathe or have a significant drop in heart rate).

All in all today was a very good day for both our boys. Keep it up!
